Baking Day

Well the rain finally beat me down , the storm raged overhead all night not so bad when your in a house but we are still living in our mobile home  it was rockin and not in a good way , the rain pounding on the roof and very cold , followed by more the following day , so unable to get outside and do anything constructive without falling over or getting blown away i resigned myself to spending the day indoors , much to the horror of the other half who had just finished cleaning and clearing i reappeared after letting out all the birds to declare i was spending the day cooking , so with plenty of goose and duck eggs i got started .

 Goose egg and bacon quiche

 Egg shells baked for hens

Lemon curd

Nets the lemons came in
filled and hung up wild birds

Lemon meringue pie minus meringue i forgot to take picture before it got eaten ,but it was rather lovely!  I had a great day baking it was lovely to have a chance to use our eggs ,we have sold out everyday but the girls are laying more now so there were a few spare and the colour of the yolks was just stunning . A very happy satisfying baking day and i washed and cleared up afterwards !

This last year has been one of great change and includes a move to another country , not only did we pack and move the contents of our house we also transported 4 horses and over 200 poultry and waterfowl to start a new quieter more relaxed lifestyle , please feel free to laugh your socks off especially if you are one of those lovely people who has read my posts on the practical poultry forum if you wish to read these you will find them in the Dust bath section under some days you want to cry at some time in the future i will copy them over for all to read ,

My youngest son and his girlfriend bought a house last June and at that point i really took stock of what was going on in my life , the eldest had already left home the youngest was now gone ,my other half was working in a job he hated ,made even more stress full by the fact that public transport didn't work when he had to , which meant i was then taking him to and from work ,this could then be 3 hours of travel time each day.

I have been treated for back pain and depression for the last 4 years the back pain came first followed by the depression both awful enough on their own but together .... lets say there have been a lot of dark days and some i don't remember and that is where the poultry came in and then took over , at the worst point i had ducks living in the bathroom and chickens in the kitchen ,how my other half and my boy's put up with this is beyond me  (at the time i really didn't see a problem with it )  i am quite sure there were conversations between them about having me sectioned , looking back i would have sectioned me .

The farm i had my animals on in England had given me notice to move off , finding somewhere else was impossible , so in a moment of madness ... which as it turns out wasn't madness at all it was the best thing ever, i suggested we move to Ireland , my long suffering other half's reply was if i could pull it of we would do it .

I am writing this from rural Ireland , in a place we own , with no stress in fact In Heaven .
